Note: Lymnozyme's name has been changed. The new name is KoiZyme. Please make a note of it. This had to be done in order to continue to use the same successful formula which has been relied upon for the last several years.
What It Is:
KoiZyme is a liquid product containing bacteria and enzymes designed to kill or outcompete the bacteria which cause ulcers in Koi..
What It's Good At:
KoiZyme will reduce the populations of hazardous Aeromonas and Pseudomonas in your pond to insignificant levels within the treatment period.
Background:
KoiZyme was introduced several years ago as a product which would reduce Aeromonas and Pseudomonas in the pond. Skeptics flocked to the product to shoot it down. The testing came back confirmatory that it performs as marketed. (Link 1) (Link 2)
Pros
KoiZyme actually works and reduces the incidence and severity of ulcer disease in Koi and Goldfish. Affordable and safe. KoiZyme can take the heat
Cons
Must discontinue your UV sterilizer during application process. No other contraindications or drawbacks exist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How many times a year do you treat the Koizyme treatment?
A: KoiZyme is to be applied all year on a regular cycle, however, my personal opinion is that you should [Spring] wake your fish up and [Fall] put them to bed with it. Dosing in mid-summer is probably not a high priority unless you're adding new fish, or in some other way 'opening the door' to bacterial liability.
Q: What's the difference in KoiZyme shipped without refrigeration for 2-3 days? Does it harm it in any way or make it less effective? Thanks.
A: Good question, the answer is no. We heat tested it in shipping and it was VERY badly abused, over 100 DF for days and it still worked. Whether the potency was reduced, or it's "eventual" shelf-life was reduced, we do not know. But we know that it worked despite superheating for several days in replicable testing. So, we offer both fast, iced shipping and regular shipping. ~ Doc Johnson
Q: What is the shelf life of Koizyme under refrigeration?
A: KoiZyme is perfectly stable under refrigeration for more than six months. I know this for a verfiable fact. I do not know what the manufacturer would warrant, but I'd wager they would say at least a year. I have tested KoiZyme after approximately eight months in the fridge and it's good. ~ Doc Johnson
Q: Since the treatment for Koizyme is "every 3rd day for two weeks", must the UV be discontinued for the ENTIRE period? Also, what about BACKWASHING? I usually BW every four-five days. Thanks so much! Keep up the tremendous work you do, Erik. David N. Florida
A: Thank you, and yes, water changes do affect the KoiZyme, by decreasing it's concentration. Small partial water changes a few days after deployment are not detrimental. However, a major water change within a few days of deployment could decrease the KoiZyme's effectiveness.
The UV should, for best results, be left OFF during KoiZyme deployment. Again, this would be most crucial in the first 72 hours after deployment. By the time three days have past, it has been my (ELJ) experience that resuming UV doesn't matter because it would seem that the KoiZyme has colonized whatever part of the biofilter or biofilm on the pond sides it's going to.

Q: .
Q: How about the dosing?
A: With every order you will get written recommendations from PondRx.com.
Koizyme dosing: The dosage of Koizyme is normally four measuring teaspoons per thousand gallons of pond water. You should dose every third day for five treatments. The treatment period is two weeks.
Use the following dosage rates:
* 20cc per 1,000 US gallons for the first five treatments.
* Then 10cc / 1,000 gallons for the maintence program. Also, water temp considerations:
* 50 to 62 degrees Double the label dosage.
* 63 to 68 degrees : 1.5X the label dosage, and
* 69 and above : Normal label dosage
Q: Storage?
A: Simple, and a good question by the way; store Koizyme in the refrigerator, somewhere it won't accidentally freeze.
